We took the necessary equipment to the Distillery including a shot list, a runner and a photographer/driver. After visiting the first time to scout the location the problems noticed were that the distiller was very reflective, almost mirror like. The village was picturesque, so we had no worries with getting footage of the surrounding area.
We started by driving end to end of the village, capturing any landscapes and landmarks that stood out to us – maximizing them by using the slider. Once inside the farm, we started with the distiller, using our runner to ensure nothing was moving in the background to reflect off the distiller into the camera.
We took a variety of angles of the distiller, again using the slider to its utmost ability – as this was the initial plan for the advert, a continuously moving piece. Once our efforts were exhausted we moved upstairs to shoot the botanicals used in the process. There were some measuring jugs and cylinders used for the extraction however we felt they didn’t suit the feel we were trying to meet in the advert.
We placed some of the botanicals on some barrels and shot them – ticking off that natural element we wanted to put into our advert.
Overall, the risks and problems on set were minimal and by being conscious of the reflections in the distiller we were able to avoid any poorly executed shots with movement in the background. When getting our equipment out we did try to get a monitor for the GH4’s but they lacked the necessary cables to fit our cameras. We believed this would help in noticing any reflections by having the viewfinder on a bigger screen. However, we did fine without.
